Learn engineering design and concepts of circuits through Minecraft redstone. Build piston doors, automated farms, flying machines, and even TNT cannons!
Minecraft is a limitless opportunity sandbox video game and is the most popular and best selling game of all time. Without any significant boundaries or expectations, players are free to explore, craft, build, and create anything within their imagination.
A particularly interesting aspect of the game is the technical capabilities that are offered through the game’s pseudo-electricity of redstone. Using the engaging Minecraft game as a platform, we can teach basic circuits and engineering design principles to young students who love the game.
In our introductory redstone engineering course, students will learn basic redstone components and explore their function(s) to design simple circuits and projects to enhance the Minecraft experience. Check out some of our sample projects below!
Students create a customizable and scalable TNT projectile launcher using timing delay, block powering principles, and dispenser mechanics.
Students create one or more of their own projects using dispenser mechanics and other nifty game mechanics. Examples include a fireworks display, item shooters, and an armor equipping station.
Students create self-opening piston doors in a variety of sizes using block powering principles, signal inverting and circuit fundamentals.
In this introductory engineering design course, students will learn the basics of power through a system and gain experience replicating and designing circuits. In this course, some or all of the following topics will be covered:
In our intermediate course in redstone engineering, students will learn and implement basic to advanced automation technology in Minecraft. From this, students will create an automated system of their choice using their knowledge of circuits and game mechanics . Check out some of our sample projects below!
Students create one or more automatic flying machines useful for transportation or crop harvesting.
Students create a system to automatically harvest and store crops to reduce time spent manually harvesting.
Students create an automatic item-sorting storage system to simplify and organize the item storage process.
Suggested Prerequisite: RE-110
In this intermediate engineering design course, students will learn advanced principles of circuitry in Minecraft and practice application of large scale circuits for the purposes of automation. In this course, some or all of the following topics will be covered:
